Business Mentors NZ is an amazing programme that enlists the help of voluntary mentors and matches them with businesses who require some form of guidance or assistance. They are usually businesses in need of some steerage to lift performance, add value and grow their business, or in a few cases are businesses in trouble and need clarity on their current situation.

When asked to be a Mentor,
most people baulk at one of two things: They don't have the time or they don't have the skills.

But maybe you do and maybe you can make a difference to business performance in Taupo.
We have an amazing team in Taupo. In fact they have been so successful that our office has been swamped with requests for mentors. EGLT would like to expand the pool in Taupo so that each mentor is only dealing with 1 or 2 clients at a time. It works out to be about 4 hours a month for each client so the workload isn't huge. Generally clients are just needing an objective sounding board or a fresh viewpoint, or even just confirmation that they are on the right track. You aren't required to get in and do the work for them, rather just listen and guide. If your contribution can make a local business perform better, then everyone in Taupo benefits.

The Business Mentors New Zealand (BMNZ) was established in 1991 to provide a voluntary mentoring service to assist the owners of SME businesses to survive and grow, and accordingly, to create employment opportunities.

Challenge, learn and validate your business skills and knowledge where it is needed most.....

If you are enthusiastic about expanding and sharing your knowledge, are self-assured and would like to help guide small business owners, you should consider becoming a business mentor. Your contribution can make a significant difference to the success of Taupo businesses.

Our mentors need to be;

  • Experienced business people from either small or large business environments. They may have senior management experience in a corporate environment or have successfully operated their own business.
  • People with empathy for small business operators and entrepreneurs with a genuine desire to assist.
  • Available at least four hours per month for mentoring assignments.
  • Have the ability to communicate with, and win the confidence of others.

Volunteer mentors come from a diverse range of cultures and fields including:
* sales and marketing
* general management
* finance and accounting
* administration
* manufacturing, production and distribution
* human resources
* legal
* international trade and export
* information technology, and
* not-for-profit experience.
